Working principle of dual-fiber optical modules

Dual-fiber optical modules operate in full-duplex mode, using two separate fibers—one for transmitting and one for receiving optical signals—ensuring high signal quality and low processing requirements.Core PrincipleDual-fiber optical modules use a full-duplex LC interface, where one fiber carries the transmitted (TX) signal and the other fiber carries the received (RX) signal. Electrical signals from the host device are converted into optical signals by a laser diode (LD) or light-emitting diode (LED) in the transmitter assembly. These optical signals travel through the dedicated fiber to the receiving module, where a photodetector converts them back into electrical signals for further processing. This separation of TX and RX fibers minimizes interference and simplifies signal processing, resulting in lower power consumption and superior signal quality compared to single-fiber BiDi modules .Comparison with BiDi ModulesUnlike dual-fiber modules, BiDi (bidirectional) optical modules use wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) to transmit and receive signals over a single fiber.
