Common standards include:IP65: Protection against water jets from any angle.IP66: Protection against high-pressure water streams.IP67: Protection against temporary immersion in water up to 1 meter for 30 minutes . For outdoor installations, NEMA 3R or NEMA 4 enclosures are recommended to ensure rain-tight protection, as specified in NEC Article 312 for wet locations . Generic “weatherproof” boxes without defined NEMA types may fail inspections.Materials and ConstructionWaterproof caps and enclosures should be made from durable, corrosion-resistant materials such as:Polycarbonate or fiberglass: Lightweight, UV-resistant, and suitable for outdoor use.Aluminum or steel: Strong and corrosion-resistant when properly coated.Cast-metal with gaskets: Ensures a tight seal and mechanical protection .
